This poem came to be after I conducted a workshop for the Seattle nonprofit, Hugo House. They provide classes and resources for writers. The writing prompt was based on a poem that was laid out like a resume; unfortunately, I can’t remember the exact poem. However, the challenge was to write a poem that serves as a resume, explaining why you write and your experiences as a poet. I went on free resume tip sites and looked up keywords and cliches to avoid, and plugged them right in.
